§ 1The course
The Power of Paper course
Kirk Beck teaches the fifth right of the First Amendment, the right to petition, and the affidavit process that puts it to work: facts in writing, a record established, a public official asked to respond.

§ 2Why Kirk wrote it
A parade, five rights, and one that nobody named
This is how Kirk Beck opens the course, in his own words.
I participated in a 4th of July parade. While there I went around to the many participants and asked them if they could name the five rights that were protected by the first amendment. Sadly not one person was able to give me all five, one boy scout was able to list four of them, speech, religion, assembly and the press, but virtually no one even mentioned the fifth right. That's protected by the first amendment, the right to petition.

§ 5The idea underneath
Why a course about paper
Kirk Beck, on the right to petition
“an affidavit is a type of petition to which a government official must respond.”
The course starts from that sentence. From there it teaches how to put the facts in writing, establish a record, and keep any response, or any failure to respond, as part of that record.
